V. King Navajo Horsehair Wedding Vase
This wedding vase offers beautiful and vibrant geometric design all around. It also uses real horsehair during the firing process to decorate the rustic vase. The artist throws the pieces of horsehair onto the pottery, at just the right time, to cause it to stick and melt into the piece. This causes a permanent application of the horsehair to the pot. Each piece is unique, no two are alike.
The carved wedding vase has been a part of Navajo and other Native American tradition for centuries. Often built by the groom’s parents, the vessel is constructed to represent the couple and the lives they now share. For the ceremony the vase is filled with Native American holy water. Signed on bottom by artist..
