Frederic Remington’s “Mountain Man” – Bronze Sculpture

Frederic Remington’s “Mountain Man” was his 9th bronze and was completed in 1903. This amazing Western themed sculpture features a mountain man riding a horse down a steep and treacherous rocky mountain slope and their motion is suspended in mid-stride. The design is extremely detailed and realistic, showcasing expert craftsmanship by the sculptor, Frederic Remington. He described “The Mountain Man” as one of the “old Iroquois trappers who followed the Fur Companies in the Rocky Mountains in the 1830s & 40’s,” probably referring to French Canadian trappers.

This statue is reproduced in the purest American bronze, cast by the superior lost wax process, finished in a bronze patina like the original and then hand-rubbed to bring out detail and highlights. The statue is then mounted on a fine marble base with an etched brass name plate. Remington’s signature is on the bronze. The incredible detail of this sculpture is a Remington master works.
